The Wildcats of the Year writing contest is open to all 8th-grade students who exemplify outstanding character, leadership, and dedication to their school and community.

The Wildcats of the Year writing contest is open to all 8th-grade students who exemplify outstanding character, leadership, and dedication to their school and community.


 Ideal candidates for this competition demonstrate the following qualities:

  • Community Engagement – Students who actively participate in volunteer work, service projects, or initiatives that benefit their peers, school, or local community.
  • Respect & Integrity – Individuals who treat others with kindness, show responsibility, and uphold high ethical standards in their interactions.
  • Effort & Perseverance – Students who exhibit strong work ethic, determination, and resilience in academics and personal growth.
  • Pride & School Spirit – Those who take pride in their school environment and contribute positively to the culture of excellence and inclusivity.
  • Academic Commitment – Learners who demonstrate a strong commitment to their education, whether through academic success, improvement, or dedication to learning.
  • Support for Others – Students who uplift and encourage their peers, acting as mentors, role models, or positive influences.

  • Submission Deadline: Friday, April 25, 2025
  • Judging Period: April 28 – May 9, 2025
  • Winners Announced: Monday, May 15, 2025
  • Awards Presentation & Recognition: Week of May 15, 2025

  • A panel of community members, county officials, and educators will evaluate the essays using a standardized rubric.
     
  • Judges will score essays in five key areas:
     

  1. Community Service & Helping Others
  2. Respect & Effort
  3. Pride & Personal Growth
  4. Academic Success & Supporting Others
  5. Writing Quality & Organization

  • The top three students with the highest scores will be named Wildcats of the Year.
